     Jerry Keith Payne was born on December 29, 1962, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Richard and Irene (Thomas) Payne. He grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Northwest High School in 1981. He went on to obtain his associate degree in Electronics. On April 3, 1982, Jerry was united in marriage to Joy Peters at the Golgotha Lutheran Church in Wausa, Nebraska. The couple lived in many places in Nebraska, Florida and Iowa, settling down outside of Woodbine, Iowa in 1995. Jerry was dedicated to his career in the car wash industry, most recently with Sonny’s Car Wash Systems.

     Jerry attended the Woodbine Christian Church. He was a passionate fan of college basketball, football, baseball, cornhole and his favorite team the Nebraska Cornhuskers. When he wasn’t watching games or attending events, Jerry enjoyed vacations, especially trips to Montana. His love for rollercoasters never faded and was passed on to his children.

     Jerry died on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 60 years, four months and 15 days.

     Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joy Payne; children, Jesse Payne, Jennifer and her husband Mark Unruh of Woodbine, Nickolas Payne of Woodbine, Lydia and her husband Alex Hobelmann of Smith Center, Kansas and Katie Payne and her partner Liam Conroy of Melbourne, Australia; nine grandchildren and one on the way; brothers, Steve Payne and his wife Deb of Grand Island and Greg Payne of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
