Joseph John Heller was born on July 2, 1951, on a farm south of Dunlap, Iowa to Urban and Kathleen (Murphy) Heller. He graduated from Dunlap High School in 1969. Joe then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa. On October 14, 1972, Joe married Pam Thiessen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashland, Nebraska. The couple lived in Dunlap their entire married life. Joe helped his dad farm, worked at the Dunlap Livestock Auction and at Dunlap Fertilizer. In January of 1980 Joe and Pam purchased the Gold Slipper in Dunlap. Joe also worked fulltime for the U.S. Post Office. They sold the Gold Slipper in April of 2002.
Joe was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap. He never knew a stranger and loved visiting with people. Joe enjoyed telling stories, spending time with his family and grandkids. He also enjoyed golfing and going to the casino.
Joe died on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at his home at the age of 60 years, nine months, and 12 days.
Joe was preceded in death by his father in 1992 and sister, Charlotte Heller. He is survived by his wife, Pam Heller of Dunlap, Iowa; three daughters, Stacie and her husband Paul Schuyler II of Bellevue, Nebraska, Michelle and her husband Shade Jones of Elkhorn, Nebraska and Laura and her husband Justin Schaben of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Emily, Shade II, Lil' Paul, Caily, Parker and Breck; his mother, Kathleen Heller of Dunlap, Iowa; four sisters, Rosemary Bleich of Belleville, Illinois, Rita \and her husband John Kellogg of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Patricia and her husband Ed Wilson of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Susan and her husband Terry Hall of Algona, Iowa; mother-in-law, Catherine Thiessen of Woodbine, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
