John "Jack" Paul Stewart was born on June 17, 1931 at home in Dunlap, Iowa to parents Dean B. & Josephine E. (Kopp) Stewart. Jack grew up in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School. He attended Graceland College in Lamoni and Iowa State College. Jack migrated to Washington State to work during the harvest. Eventually he became a cement mason by trade. He contributed to the construction of several dams, bridges and other major projects in the region. While working in Oregon he met and married Mary Louise Ryan. Jack provided extra income for his family as a beekeeper. He was well known for the high quality of honey he produced.
Jack enjoyed a life long passion of fishing, writing poetry and gold prospecting.
Jack was a devoted member of the Followers of Christ Church in Woodbine. He was known for his Christ like attributes of kindness and generosity.
Jack died on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 72 years, eleven months and one day.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother Josephine Stewart and two sisters Jodene Stewart and Jeri L. Noe. He is survived by his father Dean Stewart of Dunlap; sister Patsy Gray of Dunlap; his four children Charles Stewart of Denver, Colorado; Jeff Stewart and his wife Kim of Kennewick, Washington; Rebecca and her husband Howard Jokela and Thomas Stewart and his wife Kenyetta Carter all of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren; one great grandchild and other relatives and friends.
