Judy Ann (Daugherty) Makinen was born February 17, 1943, to Lawrence and Gertrude (McGee) Daugherty in Woodbine, Iowa. She graduated from Woodbine High School in 1960. After high school she attended college in Omaha and worked at GMAC and for the Omaha Board of Education. She married Lawrence Makinen on February 19, 1963, at the United Methodist Church in Woodbine. The couple lived in Woodbine and moved to Blair, Nebraska in 1975. She worked at D.L. Blair in Blair, Nebraska for over 25 years.

Judy enjoyed gardening, traveling, going to the casino and she was an avid reader.

Judy died on Friday, July 3, 2009, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 66 years, four months, and 16 days.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Daugherty and sister, Phyllis Hutcheson in 1983. She is survived by her husband Lawrence Makinen of Blair, Nebraska; three children, Todd and his wife Carla Makinen of Orr, Minnesota, Troy Makinen of Mountain Iron, Minnesota, Staci Makinen of Blair, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Randi Makinen of Blair and Trisha Makinen of Orr; mother, Gertrude Daugherty of Woodbine, Iowa; brother-in-law, Bill Hutcheson and his wife Diana of Woodbine, Iowa; niece, Lori and her husband Kevin Gochenour of Logan, Iowa; nephew, Steve Hutcheson and his wife Mary of Kansas City, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
