Karen Renae Hoffmann was born on September 29, 1967, in Carroll, Iowa to Emil Eugene and Carolyn (Martens) Johnson. She was raised in Carroll, graduating in the class of 1986. Karen was united in marriage to John Hoffmann on October 29,1988 in Carroll. They were blessed with three boys, Justin, Jason and Tyler. Karen left her job in 1990 and together she and John started John’s Body Repair, first north of Dow City, Iowa and in 1995 they moved the business to Dunlap, Iowa. Together they worked in a partnership to keep the business running strong for 34 years. Karen was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Karen was a source of love and strength for her family, exemplifying what it meant to be a devoted mother, first to her sons and later embracing her daughters-in-law with open arms. She bragged about how not only were both boys married but she also became a grandma all within the last couple of years. Her kindness and positivity radiated warmth, and she took great joy in nurturing and caring for everyone around her. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome, ensuring that her home was always a safe harbor where friends and family could gather. With a natural charm often referred to as the "Gift of Gab," she created connections that will be fondly remembered. Karen enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking and golfing. Her enthusiasm for tractor pulling showcased her adventurous spirit. Her life will be celebrated as one filled with love, warmth and countless cherished memories.
Karen died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the age of 57 years, two months and 29 days.
Karen was preceded in death by her son, Jason Hoffmann; father, Gene Johnson; and parents-in-law, Jim and Jeanne Hoffmann. She is survived by her husband, John Hoffmann of Dunlap; sons, Justin Hoffmann and his wife Autumn of Dunlap and Tyler Hoffmann and his wife Rachel of Manning, Iowa; grandson, Briar; mother, Carolyn Johnson of Carroll; brother, Ron Johnson and his wife Angie of Carroll; and many other relatives and friends.
