Kathryn Elaine Adamson Heistand-Walpus was born June 10, 1935, to Karl and Irene (Austin) Adamson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The family moved to Woodbine in 1936, and Kathryn graduated from Woodbine High School in 1953. Kathryn married Robert Heistand on March 19, 1955. The couple was blessed with four children. She worked at First National Bank in Woodbine and later worked for the IRS as a Management Analyst. Kathryn married John Walpus on January 3, 1987. She retired from the IRS in 1996 after working for 27 years. The couple then moved to Woodbine in 2000.

Kathryn was a member of the Woodbine First United Methodist Church; where she was active with the United Methodist Women, Morning Circle and the Outreach Committee. She was also a member of P.E.O. and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her family, and being a park host. She also enjoyed her annual outings with "The Golden Girls." She was very active with the Horizons program in Woodbine with the welcoming committee. The most important thing to Kathryn was spending time with family.

Kathryn died from a fall on Thursday, April 23, 2009, in Germany at the age of 73 years, 10 months, and 13 days.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Walpus on March 15, 2008; sister, Karen Adamson; and brother, Eldred Adamson. She is survived by her children, Debbie (Gale) Johnsen of Woodbine, Iowa, Cindy (Tom) Koster of Omaha, Nebraska, Todd (Mary) Heistand & Tammy (Jim) Barrett all of Woodbine, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; fianc�e, Dencil Hammack of Woodbine, Iowa; sister, Sharon (Duane) Klein of Dunlap, Iowa; sister-in-law, Mary Adamson-Smith of Maryville, Illinois; John Walpus' children and grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
