Kenneth Austin

Kenneth Delbert Austin was born November 3, 1915, to Julian Norman and Ida Mae (Atherton) Austin in Woodbine, Iowa. He was raised in Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School. Kenneth began his career in farming. He traveled to Colorado with his cousin, Ovid Austin to find work in the summer of 1936. Kenneth returned to Woodbine and married Neva Boe. The couple farmed north of Woodbine until they purchased the current farm west of Dunlap in 1960.

Kenneth was a member of the First Christian Church in Woodbine. He served on the equalization board, the country school board and had received an award for his soil conservation practices. Kenneth enjoyed talking about local history and keeping up with all the national and world news. Reading was a passion he thoroughly enjoyed.

Kenneth died on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa attaining the age of 92 years, two months and 19 days.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Neva Austin on November 22, 1998; and one sister, Irene Adamson. He is survived by one daughter, Jane Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska; one son, David Austin of Papillion, Nebraska; three sisters-in-law, Irene Cleveland of Woodbine, Iowa, Enid Brown of Escondido, California, Ruth Boe of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
