Laverne Nelson

Laverne (Krueger) Nelson was born November 3, 1920, to Ted and Cora E. (Goodrich) Krueger in Schleswig, Iowa. Laverne worked at Cutty's Meat Packing Plant in Sioux City, Iowa during WWII. She cleaned motels in Sioux City including the Biltmore Hotel. On October 10, 1967, Laverne married Leo Nelson, and she became the mother to Gordon, Neil, Ella and Marty. The couple operated the El and N Motel in Dunlap.

Laverne was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. She was also a member of ELCA women's group and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed going to church and the nursing home to visit people. She devoted her life to Leo and the kids.

Laverne died on Sunday March 18, 2007, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 86 years, four months and 15 days.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Nelson; and a grandson Adam Kroll. She is survived by four children, Gordon Lembke and his wife Colleen of Sheffield, Iowa, Neil Lembke and his wife Kelly of Dow City, Iowa, Ella Malone of Dunlap, Iowa, and Marty Nelson and his wife Veronica of Dunlap; 12 grand-children; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Rubye Barthel of Sioux City, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Clement and Della Fouts both of Dunlap, Iowa, Shirley Nelson of Woodbine, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
