Marva Lea (Brookhouser) Collins was born July 28, 1935, to Leiter and Opal (Roundy) Brookhouser in Woodbine, Iowa. She was raised near Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1952. Lea worked for Mutual of Omaha and Guaranteed Mutual Insurance. On August 7, 1955, Lea married Marvin Collins at the First Christian Church in Woodbine. The couple lived in Logan and Lea started selling Avon in 1960. Lea was a member of the Avon President's Club and Honor Society. In 1972, Lea opened her Fashion Shoe Store in Logan and operated this business until 2015.
Lea was a member of the First Christian Church in Woodbine and the Order of Eastern Star. Lea was a member and past president of the Logan Chamber of Commerce and started the annual Easter Egg Hunt. She was in charge of this for 32 years. Lea enjoyed crocheting afghans and cooking.
Lea died on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 81 years and 24 days.
Lea was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Karen Jo Brookhouser; and brother, Albert Terry Brookhouser. She is survived by her husband, Marvin L. Collins of Logan, Iowa; daughter, Susan LaRae and her husband Tom Egr of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Mark L. Collins of Logan, Iowa; two sisters, Bonita and her husband Bruce Majerus of Woodbine, Iowa, Linda and her husband Rick Miller of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Jim Brookhouser and his wife Carol of Lake Park, Georgia; and many other relatives and friends.
