Leila Maxine (Woodward) Pape was born December 7, 1914, to Charles and JoHannah (Roager) Woodward in Pisgah, Iowa. She was raised in Pisgah, attended country school and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1932. Leila married Walter Pape in 1936. The couple farmed near Pisgah until Walter's death in 1971. Leila was the cook at the Old Home Caf� for many years and baked more pies than can be counted.
Leila was a member of the Pisgah Methodist Church where she held various positions and was active in the United Methodist Women ~ where she baked many more pies. She was also a member of card clubs, neighborhood clubs, and she helped organize the Help One Another Club.
Leila died on Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 94 years, four months, and five days.
Leila was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Pape; one brother, Ralph (Lois) Woodward; and two sisters, Irma (John) Pape and Lorna (Charles) Hall. She is survived by one son, Larry (Donna) Pape of Bella Vista, Arkansas; three grandsons, Scott (Brenda) Pape, Todd (Casey) Pape, and Dane (Heidi) Pape all of Pisgah, Iowa; six great grandchildren, Nicole (Cody) Carritt, Brandy (Wes) Chisnall, Brandon Pape, Tucker Pape, Amanda (Blaine Sward) Pape and Cassidy Pape; great-great grandson, Kai Carritt; one sister, Dorothy Kallesen of Audubon, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews and friends. May her loving and caring ways never be forgotten ~ she will be missed.
