Leland Bruce Sears died on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska at the age of 71 years, two months and 23 days. He was born on April 1, 1937, to Bruce and Agnes Fern (Lanpher) Sears near Logan, Iowa. He graduated from Logan High School. Leland served in the US Marines from 1957 to 1960. He married Roberta Pursell and to this union three children were born ~ Kathy, Lonnie and Lori. The family lived on a farm near Logan and then moved into Woodbine. Leland worked for Keith Thompson for many years then Preben Jensen operating heavy equipment. In 1988 he moved to Gravois Mills, Missouri where he continued operating heavy equipment for Hancock Construction.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathy Jepsen; son, Lonnie Sears, sister, Mary Jane Boss and four brothers, Duane, Pete, Harold and Arlen "Shorty" Sears. He is survived by his daughter, Lori Sears of Bellevue, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, LeeAnn Sears of Papillion, Nebraska; grandchildren, Angela Jepsen of Ricketts, Iowa, Amber & Quentin Van Dyke of Papillion, Nebraska and Tony Mann of Pisgah, Iowa; two great grandsons, Owen & Talin Van Dyke; two brothers, Jim Sears and Sylvia Melby of Logan, Iowa and Bob and Roma Sears of Logan, Iowa; three sisters, Dorothy and Adrian Archer of Logan, Iowa, Betty Fellows of Omaha, Nebraska and Bonnie Brayton of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
