Leo LeRoy Hodges of rural Logan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 14, 2005, at 8:00 pm at Knoxville, Iowa due to complications of Alzheimers.
On January 31, 1924, Leo was born to Charles and Lulu (Williams) Hodges in Speed, Kansas. At the age of four he moved to Iowa with his family where he attended country school thru the 8th grade. In 1942, Leo joined the Army where he proudly served his country during World War II. He was taken as a prisoner of war in early 1944 at Anzio Beach, Italy, and held in Germany until he was released May 16, 1945, at the end of the war. After his honorable discharge from the Army on November 19, 1945, Leo returned to Logan where he purchased their existing farm. He worked for the telephone company and later as a carpenter for most of his life. He enjoyed story telling, farm life, the animals he raised, working in his shop, and his Ford tractors. He was united in marriage to Ardis Gardner on March 12, 1960, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Leo was a member of the United Methodist Church in Logan, 50 year member of the Chrysolite Masonic Lodge 420 A.F. & A.M., Eastern Star, Logan VFW and American Legion.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clinton and Earnest Hodges; sister, Pauline Stentz; and a step son, Tim Snavely. Leo is survived by his wife Ardis of Logan, Iowa; six children Jan Ritterbush of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ron (Kat) Hodges of Gravois Mills, Missouri, Debra (Ray) Bird of Potttersville, Missouri, Daniel (Deanna) Hodges of Gravois Mills, Missouri, David (Diana) Hodges of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Barbara (Dan) Langhurst of Mechanicsville, Iowa; daughter-in-law Deborah Snavely of Broomfield, Colorado; 18 grandchildren; five sisters Jean (Charles) Griffith of Audubon, Iowa, JoAnn (Jim) Bobenmoyer of Audubon, Iowa, Elaine (Don) Thompson of Woodbine, Iowa, Marie (Harold) Dickinson of Logan, Iowa and Doris Ramsey of Yuma,Arizona.
