Leonard Anthony Stinn was born May 9, 1928, to Fred and Anna (Hoehn) Stinn in Shelby County, Iowa. He was raised in Shelby County and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Earling in 1946. He farmed the family farm for the next four years. Leonard married Connie Schaben in 1950. He also purchased the Skelly Station in Earling in 1950. Ten years later the family moved to Dunlap and Leonard and two partners built the Four County Lanes Bowling Alley. In 1962 Leonard sold the bowling alley and started Dunlap Plumbing and Heating. He sold the business in 1990 to his son and continued working there part time.
Leonard was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He had served on the Dunlap City Council and was a member of the Dunlap Fire & Rescue. He also was a member of the Boyer Valley Booster Club and Dunlap Housing and Development. Leonard loved to hunt and fish ~ especially in Canada. He also loved to garden and travel.
Leonard died on Friday, March 19, 2010, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 10 days.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 57 years, Connie Stinn; brother, Cletus Stinn; sister, Luella Rassmussen; and five brothers-in-law, Bob Stoltenbert, Richard Koesters, Dick Rassmussen, Peter Gubbels, and Mark Langenfeld. He is survived by his five children, Glen (Deb) Stinn of Bellevue, Nebraska, Patty (Roland) Weis, Greg (Monica) Stinn all of Dunlap, Iowa, Ron (Gina) Stinn of Omaha, Nebraska, Mary (Charley) Olson of Elkhorn, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four sisters, Catherine Gubbels of Harlan, Iowa, Helen Langenfeld of Earling, Iowa, Bernadine Stoltenberg of Omaha, Nebraska, Regina Koesters of Earling, Iowa; brother, Frank Stinn of Chicago, Illinois; and many other relatives and friends.
