Leone Benedickt

Leone Mildred (Johnson) Benedickt was born September 15, 1918, to John and Helen (Engen) Johnson in Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School. Leone married Martin Benedickt in 1938. The couple farmed west of Dunlap. After Martin's death on September 1, 1974, Leone moved to Dunlap.

Leone was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. Leone enjoyed raising her family and was an excellent cook. In her later years she enjoyed going to the Dunlap Senior Center where she served as secretary and treasurer. Leone took the time to take many of her friends to their doctor's appointments in Omaha and Council Bluffs. She enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, and going to the casino.

Leone died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 10 days.

Leone was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Martin Benedickt; son, Joe Benedickt; two grandchildren, Craig Johnson and Darcy Culver; two sisters, Edna Messenbrink and Gladys Rothe, and three sons-in-law, Jesse Culver, Bill Delehant and Dave Kinnersley. She is survived by four daughters, Pat Culver, Jean (Ventura) Bernal, and Sue Kinnersley all of Denison, Iowa, Lois (Vernon) Redler of Trenton, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
