Lillian Withem

Lillian J. (Rhoades) Withem was born on April 27, 1921, in Lewis, Iowa to Cyrus A. and Lavina (Walters) Rhoades. She grew up in the Lewis area. In the mid 1930's she moved to Missouri Valley to live with her sister Helen. While living there she met her future husband Clayton Withem. They were married on May 7, 1938. The couple lived in the Raglan Township area. They ran an apple orchard and operated a truck garden business. Clayton died on their 60th wedding anniversary on May 7, 1998.

Lillian was a member of the Community of Christ in Pisgah, Iowa. She liked to play cards and bingo. She really enjoyed her Canasta card group. She also enjoyed working on her family genealogy.

Lillian died on Friday, August 3, 2007, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 86 years, three months and seven days.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton; son, Robert Withem; grandson, Matt Withem; seven sisters, Pearl Nutter, Beulah Leggitt, Eloise Murray, Helen Wilkinson, Dorothy Misner, Hazel Andersen and Ida Rhoades; and one brother, Fred Rhoades. She is survived by her two children, Gerald Withem and his wife Jana of Woodbine, Iowa and Barbara Anderson of Woodbine, Iowa; daughter-in-law Sharon Withem of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; brother-in-law Robert Withem of Missouri Valley, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
