Lloyd Wood

Lloyd Calvin “Sonny” Wood, Jr., was born January 19, 1936, to Lloyd Calvin Sr., and Lucille (Price) Wood in Dow City, Iowa. Sonny was raised in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1954. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Sonny worked at the bus depot in Sioux City and at Rosen Novak Cadillac. He upholstered automobile seats and furniture. In 1957 Sonny married Rosemary Lee and the couple was blessed with eight children. In 1967 the family moved to the family farm by Nelson Park where Sonny farmed. Rosemary died in 1976. Sonny married Donna Carey in 1977 and the couple had one son, Kelly. The couple moved into Arion, Iowa and Sonny worked at Farmland until he retired in 1998. Donna died in 1996.

Sonny liked to play his guitar and singing. He also collected iron. Sonny played in several bands and learned to play the steel guitar by ear.

Sonny died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at his daughter’s home near Westside, Iowa at the age of 75 years, four months, and 10 days.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary, wife, Donna; two sons, Jeff and Russell; brother, Kenneth Wood; and sister, Edna Howard. He is survived by his four sons, Joe Wood of Dow City, Iowa, Jim Wood and his wife Denise of Tracey, California, Dan Wood and his wife Heather of Hiawatha, Iowa, Kelly Wood of Deloit, Iowa; three daughters, Toni and her husband, Kelly Kibby of Westside, Iowa; Tami and her husband Tom Bordenaro of Carroll, Iowa; Shanna and her husband Merv Balukoff of Carroll, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Wood of Carroll, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis Wood and his wife Janice of Georgia, Duff Wood and his wife Linda of Dow City, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
