Lois Audrey (Hansen) Nielsen was born April 2, 1927, to Bernard Pickard and Leta (Crabb) Hansen at Logan, Iowa. She was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints on June 13, 1937. She attended Mount Hope Country School near Logan and graduated from high school in Denver, Colorado in 1944. Immediately after her graduation her family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where she worked at Scientific Radio Laboratories until enrolling at Omaha University (now University of Nebraska at Omaha). She worked at the Meade Ordnance Plant making 500 lb. bombs. Then she worked as a resident chaperone at Brownell Hall in Omaha. In 1947 she began teaching 6th grade in Logan, Iowa. On May 23, 1948, she married Everett Nielsen. To this union was born six daughters, Barbara Ann, Delores Marie, Linda Kay, Lois Mae, Betty Jane and Marilyn Sue. When all of the girls were in school, Audrey went back to teaching in Woodbine in 1963. She retired from the Woodbine Community Schools in 1992.
Audrey died on Thursday, October 4, 2007, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 80 years, six months, and two days.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Lloyd Hansen and one son-in-law Craig Hardy. She is survived by her husband, Everett Nielsen of Woodbine, Iowa; six daughters, Barbara & her husband Bruce Darrington of Los Cruces, New Mexico, Delores & her husband Steve Dorland of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Linda Hardy of Nauvoo, Illinois, Lois & her husband Doug DiPrima of Nauvoo, Illinois, Betty & her husband Jerry Vickery of New Bloomfield, Missouri and Marilyn & her husband Kent Standerford of Omaha, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
