Lula Mae (Hatcher) Hatcher was born January 17, 1917, in Post, Texas to William Riley and Effie Mae (Nuzum) Hatcher. Lula started her education in Texas and then the family moved to South Dakota and then to Iowa. Lula married LeRoy Hatcher on November 26, 1937, in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple made their home between Logan and Missouri Valley. They later moved into Logan. Lula worked at Dow's Café, Horten's Nursing Home, Holben's Nursing Home, Moore Brothers Grocery Store, Longview Nursing Home and she also took in ironing. LeRoy died on October 8, 1982. Lula continued to live in Logan until November 1, 2006, at which time she became a resident of Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa.
Lula was a member of the Christian Church in Logan. She enjoyed crafts, playing cards, reading, gardening, scrapbooking, crocheting, needlework and getting together with family. She also enjoyed fishing trips with Leroy to Minnesota.
Lula died on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home at the age of 97 years, one month, and 26 days.
Lula was preceded in death by her parents; husband, four sisters, Inez and Ethel Hatcher, Bessie Becker, Opal Archibald and four brothers, Harvey, Andrew, Glen and Bill Hatcher. She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley and her husband Harold Navrude of Woodbine, Iowa, Peggy and her husband Lenny Schmidt of Logan, Iowa; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Alice Sall of Woodbine, Iowa; sister-in-law, Helen Hatcher of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
