Marie Ann (Platt) Bissen was born December 3, 1915, to Fred and Catherine (Hoffman) Platt in Iona, Minnesota. Marie was raised in Iona, and attended Catholic school and country school near Iona. Marie married Don Bissen on September 2, 1946, at the St. Columbia Catholic Church in Iona. The couple then moved to Dunlap and farmed near Dunlap and Vail, Iowa till 1951.They then moved to Russell, Minnesota. Before returning to Dunlap in 1969, the couple moved from Russell to Iona, Minnesota. In 1969 the couple bought the Dunlap Grill. After the grill closed in 1979 Marie then went to work at the Gold Slipper and worked there for 20 years.

Marie was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, the Catholic Daughters in Iona and Altar Society in Dunlap. She enjoyed family and friends, word search puzzles, and crocheting.

Marie died April 1, 2010, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 94 years, three months, and 29 days.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Don Bissen; and five siblings, Sylvia Gunderson, Fran, Mark, Paul, and Bernard Platt. She is survived by two sons, Mike Bissen of Sandy, Utah; Dan (Susan) Bissen of Center Conway, New Hampshire; two granddaughters, Ali (Bryon) Gill of North Conway, New Hampshire, Shianna Bissen of Center Conway, New Hampshire; one sister, Clara Larson of Worthington, Minnesota; one brother, Charles (Mary) Platt of Slayton, Minnesota; three sisters-in-law, Cleota Platt of Slayton, Minnesota, Babe Platt McCormick of Iona, Minnesota, Jo Platt of Lexington, Kansas; and many relatives and friends.
