Mary Helen Deupree was born October 19, 1952, to Lawrence and Helen Deupree in Moorhead, Iowa. Mary graduated from Woodbine High School in 1971. She graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She taught Home Economics and Art Education in Crawford, Nebraska; Moorhead, Iowa; Red Oak, Iowa, and Malvern, Iowa. Mary also taught Special Education classes in the Council Bluffs, Iowa School System before accepting a teaching position in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Mary taught Home Economics at Missouri Valley until health issues forced an early retirement in 2015. She remained a resident of Missouri Valley, Iowa until her passing.
Mary enjoyed all sorts of teaching activities. Her greatest joys were seeing her student's successes in vocational culinary arts competitions. Mary was active in the FCCLA program at Missouri Valley High School. Her students competed nationwide in contests showcasing their debate and presentation skills. These nationwide competitions helped launch culinary careers and continuing life skills for many of her students. Over the years she was active in and enjoyed Harrison County judging contests, participation in County Homemaking Extension Programs, and photography work for the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.
Mary died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Rose Vista Assisted Living in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 65 years, five months and 10 days
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jim Deupree; and cousins, Virginia and Susan Roe. She is survived by her three brothers, Dave Deupree of Independence, Missouri, Dick Deupree and his wife Judy of Gowen, Michigan, Chuck Deupree and his wife Cathy of Collinsville, Texas; and many relatives and friends.
