Mary Schrad

Mary Patricia (Jones) Olson Schrad was born January 25, 1930, to Freddie and Margaret (Shields) Jones in Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised on a farm north of Dunlap and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Dunlap. Mary married Russell Olson on January 26, 1948. The couple moved to various places before settling to Dunlap. She worked as a nurse's aide for many years at the Crawford County Hospital before Russell's death on Aug 30, 1985. Mary married Ivan Schrad on Feb 25, 1989, in Dow City, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm near Arcadia while Mary worked for home heath until she retired in 2005.

Mary was a member of St. John Catholic Church and Christian Mothers in Arcadia. She enjoyed music, sewing, making crafts, and dancing. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary died on Friday, May 21, 2010, at the Crawford County Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 80 years, three months, and 26 days.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Russell Olson; and two sisters, Anna Margaret Jones and Georgia Olson. She is survived by her husband, Ivan Schrad of Arcadia, Iowa; daughter, Patricia and her husband Lee Haberberger of Dow City, Iowa; six stepchildren, Leon Schrad, Allen Schrad, Craig Schrad, Paul Schrad, Mary Margaret Schrad, and Roger Schrad; three grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; several nephews, nieces and other family and friends.
