Mary Marcedda (Summerfield) Watkins was on born October 12, 1924, at Moorhead, Iowa to William and Annie (Lovell) Summerfield. She was united in marriage to Darrell Dwight Watkins on August 13, 1942, at Woodbine Iowa. The couple farmed near Woodbine, Moorhead, Dow City and Arion. In 1960 they moved to Arion and built a home. Darrell worked as a salesman and Mary worked at a nursing home and a meat processing plant in Denison. They moved to Woodbine in 1986 and to Missouri Valley in 2015.
Mary was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Woodbine. She enjoyed gardening, and baking. Mary always made homemade bread up until the last few years. If you stopped to visit, Mary always had food available.
Mary died on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 92 years, seven months, and 18 days.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her nine siblings, Edna Frazier, Goldie Pedersen, Ralph Summerfield, Ruth Siemer, Walt Summerfield, Orville Summerfield, LaVonne Brink, Sally Schuler and an infant sibling. She is survived by husband, Darrell, sons, Darrell Jr. (Colleen) of Maryland Heights, Missouri, and Merrill of Omaha, Nebraska, four grandchildren, Kris (Mark) Immekus of St Charles Missouri, Cynthia Simon of Jupiter Florida, Mark (Sarah) Watkins of Omaha Nebraska and Merrill Scott (Marcy) Watkins of Maricopa Arizona; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many other relatives and friends.
