Maurine Keith

Maurine Vivian (Whitworth) Keith was born April 7, 1913, near Columbia, Missouri to Lon and Hattie (Johnson) Whitworth. She was raised in the Columbia area. She attended Kirksville State Teacher's College and received her degree in elementary education. Maurine married Howard Keith on December 9, 1939, in Columbia, Missouri. The couple lived in Baxter Springs, Kansas where she taught 4th grade at Washington School for 32 years.

Maurine was a member and former Sunday school teacher at the First Christian Church in Baxter Springs. She was also a member of the Magnolia Chapter of the Eastern Star and of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority. Maurine loved her family and her appreciation of her friends built the cornerstone of her life. Her assessment of teaching 4th grade for over 30 years was she placed all of her students in one large class, all belonging to her for one year, but providing a life time of memories.

Maurine died February 16, 2010, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 10 months, and nine days.

Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Keith in 2004; and two brothers, Leon Whitworth and Maurice Whitworth. She is survived by her two sons, Sandy Keith of San Angelo, Texas, Ron (Alice) Keith of Woodbine, Iowa; four grandchildren, Chris (Zane) Shipman of Bulverde, Texas, Amy (Michael) Beech of Roanoke, Texas, Anne (Chris) Holt of Edina, Minnesota, Joel (Kristin) Keith of Larned, Kansas; 10 great grandchildren; Jerod and Elise Holt, Joelle, Brady and Kolby Keith, Natalie and Lane Beech and Trey, Justin and Garrett Shipman; and many other relatives and friends.
