Maxine Mae (McCart) Barnum was born on June 25, 1922, to Ralph and Lula (Hamilton) McCart in Avoca, Iowa. The family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa then Looten, Iowa and finally Woodbine, Iowa. Maxine attended the Woodbine Community School. Maxine married Edward Barnum on December 31, 1939. The couple was blessed with six children. For a short time the couple lived in Laurens, Iowa and then they returned to Woodbine. The couple operated the Woodbine Produce for over 50 years. Maxine also worked as a cook at the Benjamin Café in Dunlap for a number of years.
Maxine was a member of the Woodbine Assembly of God. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and working on crossword puzzles. Maxine enjoyed vacations to the mountains.
Maxine died on Friday, October 7, 2016, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 94 years, three months and 12 days.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and step brother, Jim Davis. She is survived by her six children, Janice Behm of Woodbine, Iowa, Edward (Patti Edwards) Barnum Jr. of Gering, Nebraska, Cathy (Rich) Cline of Dunlap, Iowa, Terry (Sharon) Barnum of Phoenix, Arizona, Deb (Jim) De Lozier of Dunlap, Iowa, Marc Barnum of Woodbine, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; sister, Harriett Smith of Independence, Missouri; half sister, Roberta Jean Worden of Council Bluffs, Iowa; half brother, Carroll (Kathy) Davis of Woodbine, Iowa and many other many relatives and friends.
