Julia Maxine (Mefferd) Jenkins was born January 16, 1921, to parents Reuben and Edna (Foglesong) Mefferd at their country home near Woodbine, Iowa.
She attended Meadow Brook country school and graduated from Woodbine Normal School. She then moved to Omaha, Nebraska and worked at Mutual of Omaha. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold Dean Jenkins, on July 5, 1941, in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. The couple lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa for two years until they moved to the Mefferd family farm east of Woodbine where she became a full-time homemaker and farm wife. In 1953 they purchased a farm north of Woodbine and farmed there until retirement in 1976. Maxine was baptized a member of the RLDS Church on June 10, 1955, and confirmed on June 26, 1955.
Maxine died on Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at her daughter's home in Woodbine at the age of 83 years and 12 days.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean in 1992; daughter Connie Peterson in 2001; granddaughter Gaye Lynn Hanson and a sister Donnabelle Stephany. She is survived by her three children Marva Lea and her husband Norman Pierson of Neola, Iowa, Nancy and her husband Paul Marshall and Jeff Jenkins and his wife Kathy all of Woodbine; son-in-law Daniel Peterson of Woodbine; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister Ferne Soukup of Omaha and a host of other family members and friends who will remember her dearly.
