Maxine Josephine (Southern) Perrin was born September 27, 1929, to Ralph and Mary (Behm) Southern in Mondamin, Iowa. She was raised in the Modale area through 10th grade and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1945. She then took the Normal Training in Woodbine and taught country school in the Little Sioux and Calhoun areas. Maxine married Ivan Rains on May 26, 1949, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The couple farmed southwest of Pisgah and they were blessed with three children. Ivan died in 1963. Maxine attended Dana College for two years so she could continue to teach. She taught in Little Sioux and Pisgah. Maxine married Loyle Perrin on October 3, 1970 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine. The couple farmed south of Pisgah. Loyal died in 1991. Maxine moved to Woodbine in 1992.
Maxine was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She took great pleasure in decorating the church for many years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Orson Mothers, and Help One Another Club, and the Retired Teachers Association. Maxine enjoyed singing at church and at sing-a-long at Rose Vista.
Maxine died on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, five months, and 14 days.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one brother, Bill Southern; and one sister Eleanor Wisecup. She is survived by her three children, James (Maggie) Rains of Pisgah, Iowa, Leeanne (Terry) McMillen of Orange City, Iowa, Ron (Renee) Rains of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph (Jessie) Southern of Montgomery, Alabama, Derrell (Elaine) Southern of Kansas City, Kansas, Ray (Bonnie) Southern of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
