Merlin Keith Straight was born May 24, 1936, to Cleo Paul and Edna Claire (Cook) Straight near Logan, Iowa. Merlin was raised in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1954.� Merlin joined the US Air Force in 1954 and proudly�served his country as an aircraft electronic technician. His time of service�was during�the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharged in 1976, Merlin worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in Alliance, Nebraska as a car man for 22 years. He also farmed near Hemingford, Nebraska for 25 years.
Merlin was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had many other hobbies as well.
Merlin died on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the Western Nebraska Veterans' Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska at the age of 74 years,�nine months and 10 days.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Larry Straight. He is survived by his son Wesley Straight of Goodyear, Arizona; daughter, Lisa Straight of Tucson Arizona; three grandchildren; brother, Steve Straight of Gillette, Wyoming; sister-in-law, Beverly Straight of LaPorte, Indiana; and many other relatives and friends.
