Mervin Dale Hansen born October 8, 1919, in rural Missouri Valley, Iowa to Leonard & Elizabeth (Burkhead) Hansen. Merv attended school at Beebeetown, Wood country school, West Harris Grove country school and Logan High School graduating in 1936. Merv farmed with his parents. On April 15, 1945, Merv married Winifred Foote in Missouri Valley. The couple farmed for two years, then moved into Logan and operated Hansen Transfer for 35 years. Merv then drove for the company that contracted with Union Pacific to transport the train crews. Later he drove for Anderson Car Dealership picking up and delivering cars until he was 84 �.
Merv was a member of the Chrysolite Masonic Lodge 420 A.F.& A.M. the Shriners, and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 195. Merv was a licensed commercial pilot and flew from 1955 to 1970. He became interested in flying from his father-in-law, W. W. Foote. His last plane was a six passenger Beechcraft Bonanza.
Merv died November 3, 2007, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 88 years and 25 days.
Merv was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Winnie on December 3, 2003; and infant brother, Orville Dean Hansen. He is survived by his son, Dale Hansen and wife Christine of Waxahachie, TX; two daughters, Rhonda Gold and husband Gene of Cedaredge, Colorado and Colleen Stark of Webster City, Iowa; six grandchildren; Terre Evans, Eric Hansen, Gabe Burkhart & fianc� Christy Opatz, Justin Gold and wife Heather, Garett Burkhart & friend Leslie Westgate and Patrick Gold; two great grandchildren, Makenzie Evans and Creighton Hansen; sister, Vivian Kaufman of Woodbine, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Jeannie Foote of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many other relatives and friends.
