Mike Baer

Michael Paul Baer, 62, of Dunlap, Iowa died early Saturday morning on October 31, 2009, at his home. Mike was born January 21, 1947, in San Francisco, California to Richard and Claudine (O'Hare) Baer. Mike had two younger siblings, Richard Keith and Jeanine Marie. At the age of two Mike was entered into a Gerber baby contest, taking home 2nd place. Mike graduated in 1964 from West High School in Torrance, California. Mike entered the Air Force and served for two years. He moved to Schleswig, Iowa where he purchased a garbage business and named the business M & M Disposal (Mike and Megan ~ his black lab.) Danny and Dennis Baer, Mike's nephews, worked in the business with Mike for five years. Mike joined the Crawford County Memorial Hospital as an EMT in 1986, and he was a member of the Schleswig Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and socializing with all the community. Mike married Kathy (Gray) Umland on January 18, 1992, in Denison, Iowa. The couple made their home in Dunlap. In 1994 Mike started working at Western Quality Liquid Feed and worked there for 15 years, the last two years in the transportation division as a truck driver. Mike enjoyed antagonizing his family and friends and going to the casino.

Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Baer. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Baer of Dunlap, Iowa; daughter Jennie Umland of Sioux City, Iowa; parents, Dick & Babe Baer; sister, Jeanine (Chris) Martin all of Casa Grande, Arizona; sister-in-law, Linda Baer of Scottsdale, Arizona; parents-in-law, Ervin & Opal Gray; in-laws, Linda & Larry Davis, Glenda & Earl Malone, Roy & Sharon Gray all of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
