Mike Murphy

Michael Patrick Murphy was born June 4, 1954, the second child of Eugene B. and Ellie R. (Arthur) Murphy in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mike graduated Ralston High School in Ralston, Nebraska in 1972. He then proudly served his country in the Marines for four years and the Iowa National Guard for nine years. On April 15, 1978, Mike married Cathy Fouts at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap. He later earned a degree in accounting from Iowa Western and a business management degree from Buena Vista.

Mike was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devoted employee of the United States Postal Service. He served on the Dunlap City Council and was also a police officer before his postal service. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids and doing things around the house. Additionally, he also enjoyed playing golf and playing cards.

Mike entered into eternal rest on May 12, 2015, at his home in Dunlap surrounded by family and friends at the age of 60 years, 11 months and eight days.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Eugene; brother, Kelly and niece, Chrisy Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cathy Murphy of Dunlap; four daughters, Amy (Matt) Koski of Dunlap, Andrea (Dave Elle) Murphy, of Omaha, NE, Amber (Tony) Chase of Bennington, NE, Amanda (Josh Davis) Murphy of Dunlap; mother, Ellie Ruth Murphy of Dunlap; nine grandchildren, Courtney, Tanner, Canon, Brooklyn and McKenna Elle; Brody Koski; Michael, Carson and Brayson Davis; siblings, Barney (Betty) Murphy, Clancy (Karol) Murphy, Lorraine (Kenny) Houston, Ann (Denny) Behrendt, Mary (Ron) Fouts all of Dunlap, Wally (Anita) Murphy and Ed Murphy of Omaha; and sister-in-law, Lois Murphy of Vail, IA; mother-in-law, Shirley Fouts of Dunlap; father-in-law Bob Fouts of Dunlap; brothers-in-law, Steve (Sandy) Fouts; Terry (Shannon) Fouts all of Dunlap; Geoff Fouts of Nashville, TN and Mike Fouts of Omaha; and many other relatives and friends.
