Neva Hinkel

Neva Jean (Hildreth) Hinkel was born May 18, 1930, to Charles and Nina (Crews) Hildreth in Pisgah, Iowa. She graduated from Pisgah High School in 1949. Neva married Estal Eugene Hinkel on February 5, 1950, in Pisgah. The couple farmed in the Pisgah area for 10 years. In 1960 they moved to Logan, Iowa. Neva worked for Perfection Form for a few years, but she retired from the Department of Human Services in 1995 after 18 years of service.

Neva was a member of the Logan Christian Church. She loved spending time with her family and grand-children. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, dancing, and walking with her friends. Neva had a huge heart and loved the holidays. She enjoyed cooking and making homemade noodles. Neva also enjoyed following the sports of her kids and grandkids. One of her favorite things to do was to go shopping with her friend, Hazel Black.

Neva died Monday, July 2, 2007, at the Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa at the age of 77 years, one month, and 14 days.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Helen Welter and Phyllis Peterson; brothers, Charles and Warren Hildreth; and granddaughter, Jody Gochenour Mayberry. She is survived by her husband, Estal Hinkel of Logan, IA; three daughters, Lonnie (Kent) Gochenour of Spirit Lake, IA, Susan (Dennis) Hornbeck of Logan, Vicki (Gary) Lagree of Folsom, CA; one son, Michael (Kim) Hinkel of Logan; seven grandchildren, Traci Hornbeck of San Francisco, CA, Cory Hornbeck of Missouri Valley, IA, Jaime Gochenour of Loma Linda, CA, Angela Moreira and Katie Driggins both of Denver, CO, Tyler Hinkel and Kurtis Hinkel both of Logan; five brothers, Arlan (JoAnn) Hildreth, Bernard (Doris) Hildreth, Russell (Connie) Hildreth, Billy Joe (Dorothy) Hildreth, Royce (Elaine) Hildreth; two sisters, Janece Connery and Sandy Tucker; and many other relatives and friends.
