Norma Jean Gorham was born on August 22, 1924, near Dunlap, Iowa to Guy William and Mary Bodiena (Berger) Braden. Norma grew up in the Dunlap area and attended country schools graduating from Dunlap High School. She then attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and obtained her teacher's certificate. She taught country school in several places including near Dow City and Willow Township. Norma married Donald Gorham on August 23, 1953, at the St. John Lutheran Church's Parsonage. The couple farmed west of Dunlap in Monona County.
Norma loved to quilt, crochet, and garden. She would can the different produce and was an excellent cook especially her pies, angel food cake and cookies. She loved to farm with Don. Norma took care of the bucket calves, little pigs, chickens and an occasional stray cat.
Norma died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the Burgess Medical Center in Onawa, Iowa at the age of 85 years, seven months and 26 days.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and sister Betty Long. She is survived by her husband, Donald Gorham of Dunlap, Iowa; four children, Jenell Gorham of Mondamin, Iowa, Donna and her husband Corwyn Gray of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dennis Gorham of Denver, Colorado and Don Gorham of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
