Patricia Anastasia DeForest was born on September 7, 1940, to Bruce and Doris (Burton) Hopkins in Moorhead, Iowa. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1958. Pat then started working for the Campbell Soup Company. On March 6, 1960, Pat married Lloyd DeForest. The couple farmed north of town until they purchased their farm east of Woodbine. They retired from farming in 2007.
Pat was a member of the First Christian Church and was very active in the church. She was also a member of the Woodbine Saddle Club. Pat and Lloyd loved playing music together. She played the dobro while he played the banjo and they enjoyed sharing their talents with others. They were also members of the Circle 8 square dance group. The couple enjoyed hosting the second-grade pen pal trip for the students from inner-city Omaha. Pat also loved her dogs.
Pat died on Friday, October 9, 2020, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 80 years, one month and two days.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd on June 15, 2013; and three sisters, Eunice Wood, Barbara “Bobbie” Ruland and Cheryl Gage. She is survived by her two sons, Mike DeForest and his wife Karen of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Mitch DeForest and his wife Michelle of Amarillo, Texas; five grand-children; two brothers, Greg Hopkins of Minnesota and Brad Hopkins of Nashville,Tennessee; and many other relatives and friends.
