Patrick Kelly

Donald Patrick Kelly was born on August 8, 1937, near Woodbine, Iowa to John J. and Gertrude (Schoemann) Kelly. He attended country school and graduated from Woodbine High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge Pat attended Creighton studying engineering. He operated a scraper for the Schemmer Quarry near Logan and worked with his father operating a bulldozer. Pat married Karen Powley. Pat was working beside his father when his father was killed in an accident involving a bulldozer. He then constructed his own tree cage on his bulldozer following his father's accident. Karen died on December 2, 1975. Pat married Patricia Olson Bolton. He continued in the heavy equipment business and moved his shop to Denison in the late 80s. Pat became a resident of the Rose Vista Nursing home in the summer of 2005.

Pat was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine. He loved his work and each time he bought a piece of equipment if it didn't come with a manual he would locate one and read and study the manual. If he couldn't buy a part or item, he would figure out a way to make it himself.

Pat died January 30, 2010, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in at the age of 72 years, five months and 22 days.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Karen. Pat is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth and her husband Tim Plowman; grandson Jonathan James Plowman; granddaughter Jamie Lynn Plowman all of Woodbine, Iowa; two brothers, Wayne Kelly of Woodbine, Iowa and Kendall Kelly and his wife Margie McAllister of McKinney, Texas and other relatives and friends.
