Phyllis Marie (Moats) Collins was born August 14, 1924, to Ralph and Pearle (Graybill) Moats in Onawa, Iowa. Phyllis' mother died when she was six years old so Mr. and Mrs. Joe Champlin raised her in Persia. Phyllis graduated from Persia High School in 1942. Phyllis married John W. Collins on April 24, 1944. The couple farmed in the Persia area. In 1960, the couple moved into Persia. John worked at Griffin Pipe in Council Bluffs. In 1985, they moved to Logan.
Phyllis was a member of the Christian Church in Logan. She enjoyed reading her Bible and she knew her Bible very well. She was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. Phyllis enjoyed cleaning, jigsaw puzzles and she was very good at working crossword puzzles. She was also known for drinking her Pepsi and making Christmas cookies and candies.
Phyllis died on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa at the age of 85 years, eight months, and eight days.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Collins on April 14, 2006; and sister, Jean Gilmore. She is survived by her two children, Kenneth Collins and his wife Nancy of Shelby, Iowa, and Mary and her husband Paul Leinen of Harlan, Iowa; five grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremy Leinen, Jaime Fritch, Stephanie Harder and Gary Collins; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Ann Hall of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
