Phyllis Ann (Plath) Johnson died on Monday, June 23, 2008, in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 79 years, three months, and five days. She was born March 18, 1929, to Harry and Alice (Grosvenor) Plath in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She grew up in the Magnolia area and graduated from the Magnolia High School. Following her graduation she worked in various secretarial positions in Omaha, Wichita, Kansas and Logan. Phyllis married Howard Johnson on June 13, 1959, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Magnolia. The couple lived in the Logan area. In 2002 they moved to Story City, Iowa to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. In June of 2008 they moved to Des Moines.
Phyllis loved her church and was very involved in all the activities. She enjoyed singing, sewing and reading. She was a thoughtful and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Virgil and Hubert Plath. She is survived by her husband, Howard Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Margie and her husband John Custis of Des Moines, Iowa, Kim and her husband John Engelstad of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Daniel and William Custis of Des Moines, Iowa, Kory and Rachel Engelstad of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sisters, Marjorie Black of Kansas City, Missouri, Evelyn Creger of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister-in-law, Connie Edlund of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends
