Rachel Davis

Rachel Mary (McHenry) Davis was born February 2, 1920, to Charles William and Ethel May (Deupree) McHenry in rural Woodbine, Iowa. She attended Spring Creek country school and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1937. Rachel moved to Omaha and worked as a nanny. She then returned to Harrison County and worked at the Triple A Office in Logan (now the ASCS Office). Rachel married George Swenson in 1940. To this union one son was born Dennis. George was electrocuted in July of 1942. Rachel married Dean Davis in November of 1943 at the Methodist Parsonage in Denison. The couple farmed in the Dunlap area. In 1977 they purchased their home near the Gold Slipper. Dean died on March 14, 1996. Rachel moved to Woodbine to the Woodland Apartments and later became a resident of the Rose Vista Nursing Home.

Rachel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dunlap. She enjoyed playing Bingo and cards and going to the casino. She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing. After Dean retired the couple loved to travel.

Rachel died August 27, 2008, at Rose Vista Nursing Home at the age of 88 years, six months, and 25 days.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, George in 1942 and Dean in 1996; one brother, Riley McHenry; and one cousin that was raised like a sister, Norma Marie Deupree. She is survived by five children, Dennis & Sharon Swenson of Moorhead, Iowa Edwin & Carol Davis of Anthon, Iowa, Larry & Linda Davis of Dunlap, Iowa, Brenda Stahlman and Jeff Clark of Stark, Florida and Mary & Darin Gebers of Holstein, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
