Ralph Lewis Shepard was born February 9, 1908, in Woodbine, Iowa to William H. and Anna Louise (Waite) Shepard. He graduated from Magnolia High School. On February 9, 1931, Ralph married Lucille Christine Kilts in Logan, Iowa. In 1947, the couple bought a farm east of Pisgah. They raised their four children, Keith, Dwight, Garry and Catherine on this farm. The couple retired from farming in 1969 and they moved south of Pisgah. In 1991, they moved into town. Lucille died on May 31, 1997.

Ralph was the Harrison County Weed Commissioner and a master carpenter. He was a member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church and a member of the Farm Bureau. Ralph and his brother Clarence were caretakers of Soldier Valley Cemetery. He also loved to fish and garden.

Ralph died February 8, 2004, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 11 months, and 30 days.

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his four children Keith Shepard and his wife Marcella of Omaha, Nebraska, Dwight Shepard and his wife Lucille of Omaha, Nebraska, Garry and his wife Margaret of Omaha, Nebraska, Catherine and her husband Ronald Moore of Missouri Valley, Iowa; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother Clarence Shepard and his wife Mildred of Mondamin, Iowa; one sister Corlyss and her husband Ivan Parr of Neely, Nebraska; and many other family and friends.
