Raymond Henry Countryman was born August 13, 1946, in Redding, California to Lloyd and Hazel (Brown) Countryman. He graduated from Central Valley High School, and he went on to college to study business. Later on he took several correspondence courses in religion. Raymond was extremely handy with carpentry, plumbing, and electrical projects. He was an executive steward for Harrah's Casino in Reno, Nevada for 11 years. He was a maintenance worker for various companies including Ameristar in Council Bluffs and at a gas station/convenience store. On March 1, 1995, Raymond married Terry McGinnis in Arizona. The couple moved to Council Bluffs in August of 1995. In 1997, Raymond was disabled. He became a resident at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa in March of 2000. He was released for a while and became a resident again in August of 2002.
Raymond was a member and a Deacon of the Congregational Church in Dunlap. His church family was a great source of support and comfort for him. Raymond loved model trains, fishing and hunting. Another source of joy for Raymond was his feline "children" Madison and KC.
Raymond died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa attaining the age of 58 years, six months, and 20 days.
Raymond was preceded in death by his father and his son, Raymond, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Terry McGinnis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two daughters, Kimberly Countryman of Joshua, Texas and Elizabeth and her husband Edwin Miller of Joshua, Texas; four grandchildren; mother, Hazel Countryman of Utah; his half brother, Chuck Lloyd of Utah; and many other relatives and friends.
