Raymond William Fouts, 86, died on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at his home in Dunlap, Iowa. He was born on April 4, 1920 to parents David & Armah (Gideon) Fouts near Harlan, Shelby County, Iowa. Ray's mother died when he was 3 years old and he was raised by his grandmother Fouts. He attended country school near Dunlap, Iowa. After his schooling he did odd jobs in the area. He served in the US Army during World War II. On November 2, 1946 he married Della Nelson in Troy, Kansas. He worked as a police officer and on the street department in Dunlap before moving to Denison and working as a police officer and later was the Chief of Police in Denison. He retired in 1982 at which time the couple moved back to Dunlap.

Ray was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Dunlap, a fifty + year member of the Dunlap American Legion Post #224 and a past member of the Dunlap Fire Department.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert David Fouts and two sisters, Lucille Griffin and Helen Carmichael. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Della Fouts of Dunlap, Iowa; son Kirlyn Fouts of Peyton, Colorado; daughter ArmaRe Mabbitt of Mason City, Iowa; six grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister Sharon Scott of Council Bluffs, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
