Robert Lavern Wagner was born on November 17, 1958, in Missouri Valley, Iowa to parents Derrell and Evelyn (Samuelson) Wagner. Bob started school in Woodbine but then moved to Des Moines with his family. In 1972, the family moved back to Woodbine when Bob was in the 6th grade. Bob graduated from Woodbine High School in 1978. While in high school Bob played baseball and football. On October 14, 1978, Bob married Beverly Mefferd at the Woodbine Community of Christ. They wer blessed with three boys, Andrew, Brian and Derek. Bob worked for Jensen Construction, Stoddard Trailers in Dunlap, Farmland, numerous hog confinements, Phyto Tech and then Apotheca. After he retired from Apotheca, Bob did seasonal work for Agriland FS.
Bob loved all sports but especially loved baseball. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and had season tickets to the Iowa Hawkeye Football. He coached little league baseball, football and basketball over the years. He also umpired many baseball games. In 2018 Bob and his sons started selling fireworks to raise money for little league sports in Woodbine. They formed the Woodbine Area Youth Sports nonprofit to help support the little league sports.
Bob died unexpectantly on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Community Memorial Hospital at the age of 66 years and 27 days.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pam Steinkuehler; and a brother, Mark Wagner. He is survived by his wife Bev; three sons, Andy Wagner and Jana, Brian Wagner and his wife Tonya and Derek Wagner all of Woodbine; six grandchildren, Tanner, Brenden, Gunner, Corey, Tesla and Bayleigh; three siblings, Patty Christo, Judy and her husband Tom Erlewine and Tom Wagner all of Woodbine and sister-in-law, Tina Wagner of Turin, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
The family request everyone wear Iowa Hawkeyes or Woodbine Tiger clothing.
Memorials may be made to the Woodbine Area Youth Sports Nonprofit or the Woodbine Fire and Rescue.
