Velman Ross Sorensen was born on October 31, 1950 in Pisgah, Iowa to parents Dale & Barbara (Hinkel) Sorensen. The family moved to Fremont, Nebraska in the mid 50's. Ross received most of his education in the Fremont Schools. The family moved to Pisgah during Ross's senior year in high school. Ross graduated from West Harrison High School. He began working for Western Electric. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and he served in Okinawa. Ross married Peggy Hall on April 16, 1971 at the Methodist Church in Pisgah. After Ross's discharge from the Army the couple lived in Modale and Ross went back to work at Western Electric. The couple moved to Omaha for a short time then in 1974 moved to Missouri Valley. After various jobs and going to Iowa Western Community College for degrees in business and computers, Ross has worked 28 years in the refrigeration business. The last eight plus years he worked at the Greater Omaha Pack.
Ross was a member of the American Legion. He loved to spend time with his family and loved the outdoors, fishing, boating and hunting. He enjoyed his job and his coworkers.
Ross died on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 52 years 10 months and 20 days.
Ross is survived by his wife of 32 years, Peggy of Missouri Valley; two children, Jennifer & Brian Bogdanoff of Blair and Dustin & Dana Sorensen of Des Moines, IA; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; parents, Dale & Barbara Sorensen of Fremont, NE; siblings, Doug & Pat Sorensen of Fremont, NE, Nancy & Arnie Westlake of Gretna, NE, Allan & Vanessa Sorensen of Missouri Valley, Sheri & Dave Carlson of Fremont, NE and Kathy & Gary Hittle of West Point, NE and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service 10:00 AM Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley. Rev. Robert Dagit officiated.
