Roy Mefferd

LeRoy Mefferd was born on July 14, 1913, in Woodbine, Iowa to Edna Mefferd. Roy attended country school southeast of Woodbine. Roy was raised by his grandparents. On September 14, 1937, Roy married Alice E. Burns. The couple farmed for one year and then moved to Oregon for a year. After returning to Woodbine, Roy worked for the M&S Garage in Dunlap, Swain Motors in Woodbine, he also put up a cement building between third and fourth streets on Lincolnway and worked as a mechanic. Roy bought the Tully's gas station with Clarence Collins. He worked for Lawrence Daughtery, then Lowrey Oldsmobile and in 1968 went to work for the Harrison County Road Department. He retired in 1978. Roy and Alice started spending their winters in Texas. Alice died on November 19, 1997.
Roy was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine.
Roy died on Saturday, December 10, 2005, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 92 years, four months and 26 days.
Roy was preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Alice; and a half sister, Mary King. Roy is survived by his son, Wayne "Peachy" Mefferd of Woodbine, Iowa; three grandsons, Pat & Candy Mefferd of Blair, Nebraska, Mike Mefferd of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Joe & Shirley Mefferd of Omaha, Nebraska; two great grandchildren, Shawn Mefferd of Blair, Nebraska and Amber Mefferd of Schleswig, Iowa; two great great grandchildren, Jordyn and Devin Mefferd of Schleswig, Iowa; half sister Sally & Leonard Krajicek of Dunlap, Iowa; two half brothers, Clifford & Nancy Miles of Denison, Iowa and Walter & Barbara Miles of Bancroft, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
