Roy Vernon Runyan, Jr. was born on July 13, 1948, to Hildagard Martha (Melchers) and Roy Vernon Runyan, Sr. in Logan, Iowa. He was raised in the Logan area and attended country school near Logan. The family went to Germany to visit Hilda's family for a short year. They returned to Iowa and lived in Treynor and then Omaha, Nebraska. Roy started working with his father in the packing house in South Omaha and then the two moved to Minnesota to farm. Roy married Kathleen Rasinski in Little Falls, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with two sons, Bobby and James. Roy worked at the Swift Packing Plant in Sioux City and lived in Climbing Hill, Iowa. Roy married Norma Medick in Climbing Hill. The couple was blessed with two children, Cole and Alicia. The family moved to Hornick where Roy worked for a hog farmer and then he logged professionally for a number of years.
Roy enjoyed carpentry work and loved to farm and log. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and just being outdoors.
Roy died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 68 years, eight months, and nine days.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Retta Runyan; son, Cole Runyan; and brother-in-law, Gary Ellison. He is survived by his children, Alicia (Clayton) Hoermann of Nevada, Iowa, Bobby Runyan of Sioux City, Iowa, James Runyan of Randall, Minnesota; two sisters, Frankie Ellison of Harlan, Iowa, Veronica (Ken) Windle of Sioux City, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
