Roy Shumate

Roy Monroe Shumate was born December 13, 1925, in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Monroe and Bessie (Hunt) Shumate. Roy graduated from Woodbine High School, and then he entered the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he became a credit union manager. He worked for CIT Credit Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa for 15 years and Northland Educators in Fargo, North Dakota for an additional 15 years.

Roy was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. When Roy had a chance to relax he enjoyed being outdoors and camping.

Roy died on Saturday, April 2, 2005, at his home in Independence, Missouri attaining the age of 79 years, three months, and 30 days.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gweneth Shumate. He is survived by his four children, Steven Shumate and his wife Jane of Big Fork, Montana, Boyd Shumate of Kansas City, Missouri, Bradley Shumate and his wife Jeri Lynn of Vancouver, Washington, JoLaine and her husband Mark Nordeen of Wyoming; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
