Ruth Elaine Bonsall was born on April 16, 1925, near Chalco, Nebraska to Avery and Rose (Cooper) Thompson. Ruth attended country school in the Papillion, Nebraska area. She then started her freshman year of high school and graduated from Dunlap Public High School. Ruth worked at the Martin Bomber plant as a riveter on tail sections of B 52 bombers and as a bookkeeper in Bellevue, Nebraska. Ruth married Edward Bonsall on November 5, 1950, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple lived in Dunlap and Ruth had worked at the Ray Fertilizer Plant in Dunlap. She later worked for West Central Development in Dunlap and in Harlan, Iowa and then at the Clark Cement Company in Denison, Iowa.
Ruth was a member of the Dunlap United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday school and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Ruth enjoyed going to the casino and she loved to read.
Ruth died on May 22, 2011, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 86 years, one month and six days.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Bonsall on October 4, 1979; five brothers, Ward, Earl, Art, Don and Clarence Thompson; and two sisters, Helen Talbert and Rosemary Jacobsen. She is survived by her son, Micheal Bonsall of Dunlap, Iowa; daughter, Cathy Bonsall of Blair, Nebraska; granddaughter, Lindsay Hard of Columbus, Nebraska; two brothers, Jack Thompson and his wife Carol of Henderson, Nevada and Avery “Junior” Thompson and his wife Verna of Dunlap, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Thompson and Lois Thompson both of Dunlap, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
