Ruth Louise (Holloway) Summerfield, 91 of Dunlap, Iowa died on Monday, November 17, 2008, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa. Ruth was born May 28, 1917, to John and Vera (Stuck) Holloway in Harrison County, Missouri. Ruth attended school in the Eagleville, Missouri area. Ruth worked in the dime store in Lamoni, Iowa. Ruth moved with her parents and six siblings to Dunlap, Iowa in the 1930s. Ruth worked in homes, at the grocery store, and the drug store in Dunlap. Ruth married Myrlen Summerfield on April 19, 1943, in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple farmed for 25 years and then they moved into town and ran the Dunlap Shoe Store for nine years retiring in 1977. Myrlen died on January 25, 1978.

Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church and active in the UMW. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and the 31 club. Ruth loved to garden and raise Rhode Island Red chickens. She also enjoyed taking exhibits to the fair.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Myrlen, brother, Merle Holloway and two sisters, Nellie Russianno and Maxine Elliott. She is survived by three siblings, Margaret Holloway of Woodbine, Iowa, John Holloway of Spokane, Washington and Donald "Buster" Holloway of Woodbine, Iowa; brother-in-law, Joe Russianno of Illinois; many nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
