Solomon James "Jim" Cox was born on March 3, 1936, to Versal and Ida (Wimer) Cox in Allen Township, Harrison County, Iowa. Jim was raised in the Pisgah area and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1954. After high school he joined the United States Air Force where he served as a mechanic at duty stations in Texas, the Dakotas and Bermuda. He remembered this time in his life fondly. Jim married Beverly Ann Petersen of Jacksonville, Iowa in 1968. They had four children. After they separated and divorced, Jim's life centered around raising his children. Jim worked at Mid-Country Automotive in Missouri Valley until his retirement.
Jim loved being a grandfather. He enjoyed anything to do with cars, airplanes, or antique farm equipment. A great source of pride for Jim was the John Deere tractor of his father's that he, along with Tom Ellison, restored and drove in many parades. Jim was known for being kind-hearted and for having a sense of humor. He loved Iowa and his family farm near Pisgah.
Jim died on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at the Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 81 years and two days.
