Thomas Paul Gilbreath, Jr. was born October 2, 1931, to Cynthia Rose (LeRette) and Thomas Paul Gilbreath Sr. in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Tom attended schools in Hancock, Shelby, and Neola, Iowa. In 1947 Tom's family moved to a farm near Dow City. In 1951 he entered the U.S. Army, and he was in the 1st Calvary. In October of 1951, Tom was injured while serving in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1954. On December 13, 1951, Tom married Geraldine Terrell in the Congregational Church parsonage. The couple farmed near Moorhead, Iowa. Then they moved to Red Oak Iowa, and Fargo, North Dakota where he was a district sales manager for Occo feeds. In 1956 they moved to Holly, Minnesota. The couple returned to Dunlap in 1965 and he worked for IBP, the Dunlap school, Case Implement in Denison, and he ran his own repair shop. Tom also sold Shaklee products. The couple moved into town in 1990.
Tom was a member of the Congregational Church, American Legion, and he was active in the booster club. Tom also enjoyed motorcycles, vacations in Minnesota, and spending the winter in Yuma, Arizona.
Tom died on Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 73 years, five months and 11 days.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; son, David in 1976; sister, Betty Bruck; son-in-law, Dan Seela; and two brothers-in-law, Rodney Crosse and Bill Bruck. Tom is survived by his wife Gerry of Dunlap, Iowa; daughter, Paula Seela of Dunlap, Iowa; two sons, Rick Gilbreath and his wife Annette of La Vista, Nebraska; Bob Gilbreath and his wife Holly of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Gordon Gilbreath and his wife Joan of Lester, Missouri; sister Beverly Crosse of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
