Verdene Jensen

Verdene Gladys (Swift) Jensen was born October 2, 1920, to Elmer G. and Etta Wave (Thiles) Swift in Persia, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1940. After her graduation, she moved to California and worked for San Diego Gas & Electric. Verdene married Jerry Jensen on May 14, 1961, in San Diego. The couple lived in California until 1994 when they moved to Glenwood, Iowa.

Verdene was a member of the Community of Christ in Council Bluffs. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1971. Verdene enjoyed reading and embroidery work.

Verdene died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Rose Vista Nursing Home at the age of 88 years, eight months, and 16 days.

Verdene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry in 2006; and one brother, Eugene. She is survived by three children, Nina (John) Tourek of Glenwood, Iowa, Kenneth (Dixie) Madison of Salem, Oregon, Vernon Madison of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Chris (Scott) Orsborn, John "Jay" Tourek both of Omaha, Nebraska; one step granddaughter, Tami Butcher; four great grandchildren, Ryan & Brad Halford and Britanny & Brieanna Orsborn; two brothers, Elmer (Doris) Swift of Woodbine, Iowa, Lloyd (Marilyn) Swift of Logan, Iowa; one sister, Geneva (Ron) Norris of Crane, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
